There are laboratory studies that suggest that cannabidiol is effective in treating chronic arthritis pain. Animal studies show that it has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects, while other studies show that cannabidiol effectively treats chronic arthritis pain in humans and is even a safe choice. A randomized clinical trial of topical cannabidiol for osteoarthritis of the knee also demonstrates its effectiveness. However, this trial is in preliminary form and has not yet been thoroughly evaluated and controlled.

In addition, one of the largest review studies examined the health effects of cannabis and cannabidiol use and concluded that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults, while not reaching a specific conclusion about cannabidiol.
